Our Story...
My husband Sparky and I moved to Minnesota from the Phoenix area in the Fall of 2010, embarking on a new career path and seeking renewal and purpose in farming. We had sold everything except the family heirlooms, which went into storage. The two of us, 4 dogs, and three cats piled into our RV, drove across the country, settling in Shakopee. In November, just before the first snow storm of the year, we began the Farm Beginnings course through the Land Stewardship Project. Twice a month for the next few months we drove to Winona for the classroom sessions. There we developed a business plan and began our dream: Hulgan House Heritage Farms. In June of 2011 we moved to Montgomery . My kids came to live with us and our farm was established in the rich, black Minnesota earth.
Hulgan House Heritage Farms was founded on three values: Family, Community and Mother Earth. When Sparky and I decided to farm, we chose to grow Heirloom and Open Pollinated vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers, and Heritage livestock. These plants and animals preserve our agricultural heritage, while providing nutrition, beauty and diversity as they mature. We follow organic practices in our business because we value the Earth and want to preserve her for ourselves and future generations. We are located in Montgomery, MN, about 45 minutes southwest of the Twin Cities. Join our farm as CSA members, volunteers or visitors. Our family welcomes yours, and is honored to grow healthy, nutritious food for all of us. With Love and Peace, Doreen and Family |
